"Single Material" - The New Favorite in the Packaging Industry

Is "single material" really 100% one type of material? The answer is undoubtedly no. In the packaging industry, "single material" refers to packaging made from a single polymer or a uniform type of material, which could be plastic, paper, metal foil, or any other singular component.

The advantage of single material lies in its ease of sorting and recyclability. Compared to traditional composite packaging materials made up of multiple layers of different materials, single material packaging can be recycled as a whole, without the need for complex separation processes, significantly increasing the recycling rate.

At present, PE and PP are the mainstream choices for single material flexible packaging. These materials offer good flexibility, barrier properties, and heat resistance, making them suitable for various food and daily product packaging.

However, single material packaging also faces challenges. For instance, it may not be able to fully replicate all the functions of traditional composite packaging, such as barrier and strength. Therefore, the packaging industry needs to continuously innovate and develop new types of single materials to meet the packaging needs of different products.

As the new favorite in the packaging sector, single material demonstrates the industry's commitment to transitioning towards green and low-carbon solutions.
